After Venezuelan Government cut diplomatic ties with Israel last week, Bolivia announced today (14) the rupture of relations with that country, for the same reason: the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza Strip. Israeli offensive has already killed about one thousand Palestinians, and let at least 4,500 wounded. The UN general-secretary, Ban Ki-moon, asked today, in a press conference held in Egypt, for the immediate end of Israeli’s attacks to the Palestinian territory.
Bolivian Government also decided to enter with a denouncement before the International Criminal Court about the genocide committed by Israel against civil population of Gaza. President Evo Morales affirmed that the crimes committed by Israel affect world peace and stability, and bring back to remembrance lese humanity crimes committed during the Second World War and in the genocides carried out in Yugoslavia and Ruanda. Tomorrow (15), Bolivian organizations take part in a public ceremony at Praça São Francisco in support of Palestinian resistance.
In a press conference granted after a meeting with Egyptian minister of foreign affairs, Ahmed Abul Gheit, the UN secretary-general, Ban Ki-moon, said that he has a total commitment in getting an immediate cease-fire, and that he will do everything that is in his power to reach it. The secretary-general affirmed that he doesn’t feel safe to visit Gaza Strip, but he is going to talk with UN officials who are on the premises.
Ban Ki-moon declared that all members of UN have the obligation to perform the organization resolutions, referring to the resolution, approved on the eighth of January by the UN Security Council, that demanded with urgency a cease-fire in the region, and the retreat of Israeli forces from Palestinian territory. Ban emphasized that he is going to get in touch with Israeli leaders to press them for the end of the conflict.
Save The Children organization continues denouncing the situation of humanitarian crisis in Gaza Strip. The institution estimates that the local population needs eight times more help than it is receiving concerning food and medicines. The NGO qualifies the situation as deplorable. According to the organization, the three hours cease-fire for the entrance of humanitarian aid is inadequate, and is hindering humanitarian efforts.
According to Save The Children estimations, at least 7,200 trucks should have entered in Gaza to secure that the population will have a minimum of food, fuel and medicines. Only 900 trucks had access allowed since the beginning of the conflict, according to Israeli Government. The NGO affirms that, before the conflict begins, more than one million people in Gaza, more than the half of it being children, already depended on humanitarian aid.
